Matt Elwell is co-founder and CTO of Flagsmith, an open-source feature flagging and release management platform used by engineering teams ranging from early-stage startups to global banks and Fortune 500 enterprises.
Since founding the company in 2018 he has led its engineering organisation, its open-source project, and the private cloud deployments that run inside some of the world's most heavily regulated environments. That combination gives him a fairly unsentimental view of how software actually ships: the flags nobody ever cleans up, the rollout that goes wrong at 2am, and the gap between a release process that looks good on a slide and one that survives an audit.
